About the event:

The UK will be participating in the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition in 2019 (29 April – 7 October), the largest Expo of its kind focused on green living, sustainability and horticulture, with 16 million visitors to the 500-hectare site expected across 6 months.

The Expo will be the centrepiece of China’s celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic and will be held in the Yanqing district of Beijing at the foot of the Great Wall. Over 100 countries and international organisations will participate alongside Chinese provinces, municipalities, commercial organisations and scientific and academic institutions.

Theme:

Under the theme: “Live Green, Live Better” the Expo will focus on the relationship between people and nature and the importance of preserving the environment to achieve sustainable economic growth. Bringing together horticultural practices and traditions from around the world the Expo will show how new technologies and innovation are supporting and encouraging greener lifestyles.

UK Garden:

The UK will be building a garden and pavilion to celebrate the best of British creativity and design and to demonstrate global leadership and expertise in the green economy and environmental conservation. The Expo will provide a unique opportunity to promote UK strengths in a wide range of areas from energy, infrastructure and green cities to agriculture, education, and tourism.

Our participation aims to drive significant trade with China and inward investment for the UK. China is the UK’s 5th largest trading partner and the 8th largest export market.  It will be an opportunity for political engagement at a senior level, as well as for profile-building in one of the world’s largest and fastest growing markets. Our objective is to offer a platform for our partners to:

  • gain significant commercial exposure, through the largest international horticultural Expo ever staged, in a large and fast-growth market for the UK
  • showcase the very best of British products, expertise and services to Chinese regional and international audiences
  • become part of an exciting programme of events and engagement throughout the duration of the Expo, linking into the UK government’s media and public engagement strategy.
