Request a free 1:1 meeting to learn about selling retail products to the largest economy in Europe and the fourth strongest in the world…

Germany is the West Midlands and UK’s largest export market in Europe and second largest globally after the US. Its consistently strong economic performance offers long-term growth potential for UK businesses.

The 1:1 meetings will be hosted by:

  • Marie Loerke, Trade Advisor specialising in Retail, Fashion and Luxury for the Department for International Trade based at the British Embassy in Berlin.
  • Anton Fischer, Registered European Lawyer - The Wilkes Partnership offers its German Services to both German and British clients.Being an active member of the German-British Chamber of Commerce and a recognised representative legal firm for the Midlands region for many years, we have obtained a great deal of international experience dealing with all kinds of cross-border legal questions.
  • Gerti Willis, Culture and Communication Adviser - A highly professional trainer of business skills and intercultural competence, with 25 years of experience negotiating contracts with language trainers from many countries and cultural backgrounds which has given her in-depth knowledge of cultural diversity. She has previously worked in Germany for an organisation setting up Fair Trade Projects in Kenya, India and Sri Lanka.

This is your chance to learn about the exciting opportunities and support available to help your business succeed in Germany. There are particular opportunities in the sectors listed below:

Fashion - Fashion is an already established sector with an extensive network and very strong pipeline. Revenue in the fashion sector amounts to €17,502m in 2018 and is expected to show an annual growth rate of 7.7% resulting in a market volume of €23,581m in 2022.

Retail Technology - Retail technology is the process of incorporating technology applications or services to help enhance the customer experience in brick-and-mortar retail stores as well as online. With a 2015 revenue of EUR 472 billion, the retail industry is the third largest industry sector in the Germany economy, making up 16% of total GDP. Customer traffic is considerable, with a total of 50 million daily customers and an expected growth rate of 2% in 2016. One driver for this growth is e-commerce, which generated EUR 46.9 billion in B2C turnover in 2015.

E-commerce - Germany has been identified as Europe’s second largest online market behind the UK – but with almost triple the UK’s current growth potential. Revenue in the e-commerce market amounts to EUR 63.700 in 2018 and is expected to show an annual growth rate 7% resulting in a market volume of EUR 83.048 in 2022.

Luxury Goods - In market value, Germany ranks seventh on the global luxury market and fourth amongst its European neighbours. The total retail value (retail sales price) of the luxury goods market in Germany has risen steadily from 2011 onwards and reached approximately EUR 11.8 billion in 2016. It is predicted to rise further in the next few years.

Maritime sector - Boat Trade Mission to Germany - The total turnover of the German maritime economy reached EUR 54 billion in 2017, amounting to about 2.5% of German GDP. The most important sub/sectors on the basis of turnover are shipping, shipbuilding suppliers and shipbuilding. There are furthermore many other industries that are indirectly connected to maritime, such as port logistics, fishing, tourism, offshore wind and financial services.
