UK Airport Trade Mission to New Zealand and Australia 2019

Australia & New Zealand, 11 November, 2019 to 15 November, 2019

UK airport sector companies are invited to join a Department for International Trade (DIT) mission to Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). The delegation will visit Auckland, Melbourne and Sydney to engage with the key airport operators, contractors and sector stakeholders.

Why Australia and New Zealand?

Australia and New Zealand have both seen a strong and sustained increase in international and domestic passenger movements over the past decade, driven by growing demand for interstate and international holidays, business travel, and visitors from large and fast-growing Asian economies. There has also been an average annual increase of 3% in the volume of international air freight (in tonnes). To support the strong growth which is on-track to continue, governments in both countries have committed to significant airport infrastructure upgrades for their major airports.

The airports range in size and complexity, each having unique challenges and opportunities:

  • Auckland Airport is the second largest airport in Australasia, a global hub for air travel in Australasia and the Pacific Rim, and acts as a connection hub for South America and Asia.
  • Melbourne Airport plans to develop an additional parallel runway to accommodate a doubling of movements per hour.
  • Avalon Airport is Melbourne’s second busiest airport, located between Melbourne and Geelong, makes it both an important second city airport and an exceptionally well-equipped regional airport in Western Victoria.
  • Sydney Airport is the gateway to Australia, located only eight kilometres south of the Sydney CBD, and less than 10 kilometres from Sydney Harbour and major tourist destinations.
  • Western Sydney Airport is the most significant infrastructure project underway in Australia and will be the first smart airport in the Southern Hemisphere, complete with the latest technologies and customer services.
