The Department for International Trade (DIT) and China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) are delighted to invite you to join this webinar and panel session, looking to demystify data in China.

China is now the second largest global market for digital technology after the U.S. China’s digital economy was worth an estimated USD 5.5 trillion in 2020, accounting for 36.2% of GDP. With 900 million plus internet users and a vibrant consumer economy, China is experiencing rapid and large-scale deployment of emerging technologies, such as 5G, advanced AI, IoT and blockchain-based technologies.

Tech and innovation is core to China’s future development and is central to the country’s 14th Five Year Plan.  As China continues to invest heavily in science and innovation new opportunities will continue to emerge for UK technology firms to enter into increasingly mature supply chains. According to Oxford Economics, UK digital service exports to China alone will reach GBP31.4bn by 2025.

The Data Challenge

Cybersecurity and data are increasingly critical issues for any tech business trading across borders. China’s cybersecurity law imposes stringent regulatory requirements on foreign tech companies, with new data privacy rules affecting the way in which the data of individuals and entities should be stored, processed or transferred across borders.

This webinar will address these complex and will seek to 'demystify' the data environment and address live issues and questions UK tech firms and businesses may currently be facing.
