Why Chile?

Chile has long been a commercially like-minded and open business partner for the UK. Links go back many decades and there are close ties politically and militarily. But Chile is in recent times a truly impressive and modern market. It has the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in the region. It is an ideal place to develop and explore new opportunities thanks to its natural riches and demand for innovative solutions. There is also a strong association with British products and services. Over 100 UK companies have direct operations in Chile, with many more working through local partners, demonstrating a strong British commercial community.

The Chilean people often study abroad, taking back to the country the best of what international universities have to offer and the country has a highly skilled workforce. Chileans are keen followers of global trends and consider themselves at the forefront of innovation in the region. The culture is such that you know where you stand with a Chilean business partner and integrity is all.

Chile is a key player in regional and international collaborative initiatives, having signed 26 Free Trade Agreements. Chile is the first country in the world with which the UK signed a post-Brexit trade continuity agreement. It is a founding member of the Pacific Alliance and the CPTPP, and as such prides itself on being open for business. The country is regularly ranked the highest in South America for the ease of doing business by the World Bank due to its economic stability. As a strong commodity economy (mining, agriculture) with growing service sectors, there are many opportunities in modernisation, digital and eco-friendly initiatives. This is also true of the consumer goods, infrastructure and healthcare sectors.
