TVET Mission to Egypt

2 to 6 December 2018
Cairo and Alexandria

About the mission

DIT Egypt are organising a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) mission to look at opportunities in Egypt. This is part of a wider multi-sector mission led by our UK Trade Envoy to Egypt Rt. Hon. Sir Jeffrey Donaldson. UK Companies and institutions delivering in the TVET sector are eligible to apply to attend, whether you have an existing presence in Egypt, or are keen to enter the market.

Why Egypt?

  • Egypt is the third most populous country in Africa and the 15th worldwide.  Over the last two years, Egypt has undergone a massive transformation into a market-oriented economy leading to higher growth, trading opportunities and skill requirements.
  • The IMF’s Regional Economic Outlook report projects Egypt’s growth rising to 5.2% in FY2018 and 5.5% in FY2019. Improving confidence in the economic reform agenda is boosting private consumption and investment.
  • Education is a high priority for the Egyptian Government and reform is highly required in all levels and all industries. There is urgent need to fill the gap between graduates and industry skill requirements, as well as develop ‘soft skills’ for employability.
  • Now is the right time to get involved in this exciting emerging market. The Trade Envoy’s visit provides an excellent opportunity for interested TVET companies to explore Egypt's untapped business potential and highlight the UK’s commitment to investing in Egypt’s future.
  • Key opportunities:
    • The Egyptian military are looking for a complete “Turnkey” system for TVET development in their centres and factories to enable them to recruit, assess and train the right technical skills. They are also looking for commercial partnerships with UK universities for mechanical engineering, R&D skill courses
    • Alexandria Business Association (ABA): Looking for UK partners for their Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) to upskill graduate professional technicians to meet market needs locally and regionally. They also want access to develop internationally accepted industry developed curriculum.
    • Nursing: The Education Development Fund, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Higher Education are working on a reform programme for the nursing sector including training and capacity building
    • Oil & Gas: The government is keen to develop capacity of workers in the O&G sector and upgrade their skills through intensive training, technical/vocational and soft skills.
