UK FinTech Mission

The UK FinTech Mission to Austria and Switzerland, organised by the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Scottish Development International (SDI), is an excellent opportunity for UK FinTech companies looking to expand their business in the Swiss and Austrian markets. This mission will offer up to 30 UK FinTechs a programme of networking opportunities and events to present their technologies to potential clients.

How can I join the Mission?

30 UK-registered companies will be selected to join the Mission travelling to Vienna and/or Zürich to present their FinTech solutions to senior executives in Austrian and Swiss banks, insurance companies, asset management and venture capital firms.

These events are taking place on the 29th/30th in January and to go to both markets, companies would only have to make one trip.

In order to be included in the selection process to join the mission, please register below.

We will then use a panel of experts to select the companies, taking into account the preferences of potential clients who will be attending the events. You will be informed as to whether we can offer you a slot at the event – we use this method to ensure that you are not wasting your time or money.

Participation fee: £1,100 + VAT (both markets) or £660 + VAT for one market

Please note: Registration does not guarantee attendance, as all companies will be pre-selected prior to confirmation.

Registration deadline: Friday, 15th November 2019 EOB

Why Austria? Isn’t it more Mozart than Fintech?

The companies which you are pitching to have an extremely high market share across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). This means that, if they buy your products or services, you could immediately have a presence across upwards of 15 countries.

Austria is a country of wealthy consumers, with GDP per capita of €38k (vs. €34k in UK). It also has the highest level of smartphone and internet access in the CEE region. The market for FinTech in Austria is projected to reach €588 million by 2020 and FinTech investments in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) rank 2nd in the EU after the UK. Limited domestic expertise means big opportunities for UK companies to get first-mover advantage in the market.

Why Switzerland?

Switzerland is home to 248 banks. The client assets managed by the banks in Switzerland amount to approximately £6 trillion, of which more than £1.8 trillion are from private clients outside of Switzerland. This corresponds to more than 27 percent of the global market share, making Switzerland the leader in international wealth management.

Zurich was ranked 8th in the 2019 Global Financial Centres Index and 2nd in Europe (after London). A third of Switzerland’s 253 banks have their head offices in Zurich. Some 500 banking institutions are also represented in the city in one form or another.

Like Zurich, Geneva is a significant global financial centre. It ranked 5th in Europe and 28th globally on the 2019 Global Financial Centres Index. Geneva’s financial centre comprises over 100 banks. It is also a major centre for asset management. Representatives from financial institutions in Geneva will be invited to the Fintech Mission in Zurich. All these financial institutions understand the need to provide innovative digital solutions for their customers.
