About the mission

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is organising the Education is GREAT - British Early Years Education Campaign in China in late October 2019, aiming to support UK education stakeholders to explore opportunities in 0-6 stages including establishment of nurseries (0-3 years), kindergartens(3-6 years), teacher training, resources, among others.

Since 2017, the Chinese government has been encouraging the  early years industry to raise its  standards and quality of provision. According to Deloitte, the overall market size of China’s education industry is expected to reach £382bn by 2020, of which 0-3 stage market accounts for £36bn and 3-6 stage accounts for £75bn. Driven by the strong Chinese government initiative and market demand, early years education in both 0-3 stage and 3-6 stage has experienced a rapid development, with more than 15 UK brands entering China, and more planned  in the near future. Moreover,  the wider opportunities , in addition to the establishment of nurseries, also include teacher training, resource exporting, curriculum development, etc.

Under these circumstances,  DIT plans to bring a UK early years delegation to visit China, aiming to better scope market opportunities in the emerging regions and foster relationships between UK schools and Chinese investors. This week-long mission will include briefings, forums, networking, site visits, and will take place in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Chengdu.

This packed programme will offer delegates:

  • Pre-departure briefing
  • Education is GREAT forums in three cities
  • Business match-making session
  • Networking receptions
  • Site visits to nurseries and kindergartens
  • Debriefing
