Why participate?

Take advantage of dedicated DIT support for your company in these two impressive offshore wind markets.

The Asia Pacific region is one of the most ambitious and actively engaged offshore wind regions in the world.  UK companies are invited to meet offshore wind developers and major turnkey contractors during a 5-day programme in South Korea and Taiwan with support throughout from DIT Trade Advisers and Offshore Wind Specialist.

South Korea: 11-13 November 2019

South Korea plans to develop 48.7 GW of renewable energy by 2030 including 12 GW from new offshore wind farms.  Korea Offshore Wind Power (KOWP) will lead the first project to deliver 2.5 GW off the south-west coast.  Phase 1 demonstration will deliver 60 MW from this year and KOWP will carry out Phases 2 & 3 together in 2020, adding 400MW (Phase 2) and 2 GW through multiple projects (Phase 3).

Further developments will be led by private companies in Jeolla Province, including Hanwah E&C’s 400MW Shinan project, and POSCO Energy’s 4GW off the west coast, with a first phase of 300MW.  The Ulsan City is planning to add a 1 GW floating offshore wind farm by 2022; Jeju Energy Corporation will develop 120MW and 100MW farms in Jeju Island and the government is planning a further 1GW project in Saemangeum, North Jeolla Province.

Taiwan: 14-15 November 2019

Formosa 1 will be completed this year with an installed capacity of 128 MW, and Taiwan has its sights on delivering a total of 5.5GW of offshore wind power by 2025.  The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) will deliver an additional 5GW of grid capacity after 2025, meaning a total of 10.5GW of planned capacity by 2030. The programme in Taiwan will be co-hosted by the DIT team in the British Office Taipei and Taiwan Government - Bureau of Energy, MOEA for participating UK companies.
