The Chinese E-commerce market is the largest global E-commerce market, and by sales value is larger than all other global E-commerce markets combined. It is still growing at a tremendous rate: 23.9% (year-on-year 2018 vs 2017), and now accounts for 23% of the total retail sales in the market. The total retail market in China is expected to surpass the US this year for the first time ever.

For any British business selling consumer products that is serious about expanding into the world’s largest consumer market, it is vital to understand the structure and requirements for entry into Chinese E-commerce. At the same time the Chinese E-commerce environment is very different to other economies. The language, culture, buying habits and legal environment all require an approach that is tailored to China in order to succeed.

To help British businesses take advantage of the opportunities, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC), the Department for International Trade (DIT) and HSBC have put together a four-part programme to lead companies from an introduction to the Chinese E-commerce market, through to actively trading in the market.
The first stage is this free half-day introductory Masterclass which will outline the opportunities and challenges of selling in the Chinese E-commerce market and equip businesses with a thorough understanding of the resources and commitments required to be successful. The knowledge acquired will help them to decide whether the China opportunity is right for their business.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Market background and information

  • How Chinese E-commerce differs from that in Europe and North America

  • Experience of a UK business trading on E-commerce sites in China

  • The importance of social media and digital marketing

  • What steps you need to take to prepare and protect your business in advance of trading in China

  • Be invited to the rest of the four-part programme leading to active trading in China
