2020 Smart Cities Mission to Brazil

23 - 27 March 2020

UK/Brazil Smart Cities Business Development Visit

More than 85% of Brazil’s population live in urban areas. The country has 17 cities with over 1 million inhabitants. Sao Paulo is the largest megalopolis in South America with over 16 million people. It should not be difficult to foresee that Brazilian cities will not only need to rapidly absorb a large number of people, but they will also have to do it in a rather innovative way to drive economic development to its population.

To improve the quality of life in fast-growing urban centres in developing countries such as Brazil, the British Government is implementing the Future Cities Programme that aims to provide support and alleviate high levels of urban poverty by encouraging sustainable development and economic growth. This Smart Cities business development mission will focus on building partnerships and increase British companies’ knowledge about the Brazilian market needs. It will also better position UK's participants to develop collaborative arrangements with potential Brazilian partners and buyers, enabling them to pursue local business opportunities within selected cities in the Future Cities Programme and further afield.

If you have a solution that fits to the broader elements in the priority areas of the Future Cities Programme, you should definitely apply for this mission.

Any UK tech company capable of doing business internationally and keen to explore the Brazilian market is highly encouraged to participate in the agenda.

The best 5 applications will be granted financial support for the visit. Selection criteria will be based on technology’s potential for matching demands of selected Brazilian cities in the programme.

Companies will be ranked and selected by a board of specialists and the Future Cities Programme team in Brazil, who will consider the following criteria:

  • Readiness for technology implementation in Brazil
  • Innovation level and applicability of solution in the local market
  • Solution alignment with the priority areas of the Future Cities Programme
  • Commercial development plan for Brazil
  • Social and economic impact of the proposed technology

Please submit your application using this link by February 16th, 2020.

A short list of selected companies (up to 5) will be granted financial support to join delegation. Funding will be provided for:

  • Airfare
  • Local transportation
  • Accommodation
  • Meals

Please note: UK applicants with matched profile, but not ranked for financial support, will be more than welcomed to join the mission on their own expenses.
