Join the Department for International Trade (DIT) for a Northern Powerhouse Creative & Digital Sector Panel Discussion on Thursday 29th October 2020.

This live discussion will provide businesses with a greater insight into the support and opportunities available to companies to export in the industry during the COVID19 pandemic, whilst also discussing the current challenges businesses are facing.

Philip Blacklock, International Trade Adviser for the North East Creative & Digital Sector and Mike Bartley, Head of Creative at the Department for International Trade will be discussing the support available to help UK companies trade internationally successfully.

Jason Knights, Managing Director of Blue Kangaroo Design and James Hanson, Founder of Layers Studio will also be joining the panel to share their first hand experiences of developing relationships and business opportunities overseas, the support they have accessed through DIT, the challenges they have faced and practical advice on how to overcome them,

This virtual event will be a great opportunity to enhance your export potential and hear from like-minded businesses within the service sector.

Michael Bartley
The Department for International Trade
Mike is Head of Trade and Investment activity Creative, Consumer and Retail Industries for the Department of International Trade . His job has two distinct parts : • Working with overseas companies who are considering investing and locating in the UK • Working with overseas companies who may be looking to promote their good and services overseas Mike has worked in a number of national and regional roles in Trade and Investment . Prior to joining the Department for International Trade much of Mikes career was spent in the Publishing Sector working for the likes of Reed Business International and United Business Media in roles both in the UK and overseas
Phil Blacklock
The Department for International Trade
Phil has worked at the Department for International Trade since 2015. Having previously worked for the North East England Chamber Of Commerce for 5 years prior to starting at Department for International Trade, Phil has a wealth of experience working with the North East business community in different capacities to support their growth and activity. Internally, Phil is the lead International Trade Adviser for the Creative, Digital & Tech Industries, whilst also being a lead for the Irish, Swedish and Portuguese markets respectively. His working remit is to provide export advice, support and consultation to Creative, Digital & Tech companies located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, whilst also supporting businesses of all sectors within Durham and surrounding areas.
James Hanson
Layers Studio
A creative designer with over 13 years of experience in Brand and Digital design. A leader who strives to combine the talents of those with skills outside his own to make something great. This passion led him to found Layers Studio. Layers combine the skills of strategy, design and development to create fully thought-out web-based software solutions. Their approach of combining the right skills for the right job, from the very beginning of a project, makes them avid collaborators and advocates of connecting with businesses to form trusted partnerships. A North-East based digital studio who are growing their network overseas and slowly gaining international clients, they're keen to keep moving forward in this vein as they grow their team.
Jason Knights
Blue Kangaroo
A passionate and creative thinker who has built up a reputation globally as a man who gets things done. Although based in the North East of England he has built up a network of clients around the world. He has also been instrumental in introducing other North East companies to his international clients and in some cases has brokered deals to bring back business to the North East. As well as working along side the Department for international trade Jason is also working with Local authority as well as Barclays Bank to help and support new exporters. Working with some of the biggest names in the Toy, Character Licensing, Entertainment and Film industry in EMEA, LATAM, APAC and North America.
