The Northern Powerhouse is home to a significant number of Financial and Professional Services (FPS) companies with more than 440,000 people employed across industries including banking and finance, legal services, accountancy, insurance, real estate and consultancy in 2018 (TheCityUk).The sector is one of the key industries in the Northern Powerhouse and one we are targeting for support as part of the levelling up agenda.

Over the coming months, we will be hosting a series of events in partnership with relevant organisations to help companies in the sector access international markets and grow their businesses through exports. These will include opportunities to meet international buyers, learn from sector-specific webinars and join roundtables with key industry organisations.

Panel Discussion with Experts in the Atlanta, Georgia FinTech Ecosystem - RECORDING COMING SOON

We are excited to be working with DIT USA, FinTech North and Tech Nation on an event bringing together FinTech companies from the Northern Powerhouse and experts in the Atlanta, Georgia FinTech ecosystem.

Known as Transaction Alley, Atlanta is the payments capital of the US processing roughly two thirds of all US payment transactions in 2018 (Technology Association of Georgia).The region offers a market which may be easier and less costly to break into, compared with the East and West Coast of the USA.

The US and the UK are both leaders in the FinTech landscape and share many similarities with market-oriented economies, comparable regulatory approaches, a common language, similar culture and a focus on innovation. This relationship offers a tremendous potential for the exchange of ideas as well as trade opportunities.

This event will be suitable for:

  • FinTech, LegalTech and InsurTech companies with an interest in doing business in the USA
  • Companies of any size, from start-ups to large corporates.

Attendees will hear about funding available to help them establish their business in the USA and following the event there will be an opportunity for attendees to meet international buyers in the region.

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Department for International Trade (DIT) want to hear from lawyers about your insights, barriers and opportunities, and how the Legal Services are GREAT campaign can best support you in breaking into new and emerging markets, post COVID-19. Join the MOJ, DIT, and the law societies in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool for a series of inclusive roundtable events where you can speak openly, tell us what you think about the big issues facing the sector and have your say about the support you need.

These events will be suitable for law firms from the Northern Powerhouse who are, or are interested in, doing business with international clients. Our guest speaker for the first session is Benjamin Smith from Clyde & Co LLP, and themes for the first session include business modelling post COVID-19, priority markets and subsectors, and barriers and opportunities for international expansion.

The second instalment in our roundtable series with the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Leeds Law Society for those who are unable to attend the first event. Suitable for law firms from the Northern Powerhouse with an interest in doing business with international clients. Themes for this session include business modelling post COVID-19, priority markets and subsectors, barriers and opportunities for international expansion, with more themes to be added if relevant.


On registering your interest you will be able to select which event/s you wish to attend.

Where places are limited, only one attendee per company will be permitted per event. Companies which meet the criteria will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

On registering for these events, we will be collecting personal information as part of our registration process. This information will be processed and shared within the Department for International Trade (DIT) and with selected third parties for purposes connected with DIT performing a task in the public interest or to fulfil an official function and the task or function has a clear basis in law.
