About the event

As part of our Enhanced Export Growth ERDF project, West Midlands International Trade LLP is organising an Export Insight Programme with the Netherlands. The idea is to give eligible West Midlands-based SMEs an insight into what it takes to succeed in the Dutch market and what sort of export support is typically available through various channels both in the region and overseas. We have chosen the Netherlands for a number of reasons:

  • Pre-COVID it was the world’s 17th largest economy and the fourth biggest market for West Midlands exports

  • It is an excellent springboard for business in other European markets

  • English is widely spoken and the Dutch have a natural affinity towards Brits!

  • The Netherlands has an open culture with an international focus

  • Entrepreneurship and innovation are strong Dutch traits

  • Numerous daily flights to Schiphol and direct Eurostar trains to Amsterdam

More information

We are using a three stage approach. Stage 1 was a webinar held on October 1st. If you missed it you can catch the recording here. We recommend you watch it to see if it sounds like a suitable market for you.

The Programme is open to eligible West Midlands-based SMEs from any sector, so don’t be put off by the webinar sub-focus on FMCG and food and drink. If you are an SME whether experienced or new to exporting, and interested in selling predominantly B2B, then the Enhanced Export Growth Project invites you to join our Digital Dragons’ Den to pitch your product or service to a hand-picked panel of highly experienced Dutch entrepreneurs and business support experts from a range of sectors. You will receive instant feedback on how well your offer suits the Dutch market and what changes you might need to make to succeed there or further afield. You will also receive a written summary of the Panel’s comments and recommendations. We also plan to arrange an optional Pitching workshop for you to hone your overseas sales style before you enter the Dragons' Den.

COVID permitting, the final stage of our Export Insight Programme - for those companies the Panel felt have potential in the Netherlands, will be a market visit later in February / March. If a physical visit is impossible, we will look to do virtual market insight activities instead.
