Succeeding in China:
How to Mitigate Intellectual
Property Risk

China is a potential export and licensing market for UK businesses, and an option for manufacturing, investment, innovation and creative collaborations. There are significant opportunities on offer for British companies in a range of sectors.

Getting your IP protection right in the beginning is one of the most crucial steps if UK companies are to succeed in China. The UK’s IP Attaché team in China, based in the British Embassy Beijing and British Consulate Shanghai, supports over a hundred companies each year from across the UK. This includes advising British companies of all sizes on risk mitigation strategies ahead of China projects and helping resolve disputes after they arise.

Why Attend?

Samuel Stone, IP Attaché to China, and Max Jiang, Senior IP Officer, will be joining us to share practical tips to ensure your China venture has the best possible chance of success and offer 1-2-1 appointments to address your specific questions. They will cover:

  • The main IP risks of doing business in China, and how this can affect exporting, manufacturing, investment, joint research and other projects
  • Know before you go: Practical steps to mitigate IP risk, including IP registrations, China contract best-practice and structuring relationships with Chinese partners
  • Don’t panic! What to do if things go wrong
  • Case studies

Who should attend?

This session is suitable for companies in all sectors, who are either currently exploring opportunities, or those already operating in the country.
