Opportunities in Japan

Northern Powerhouse Trade Mission

Discover the opportunities for your business in Japan

From 2 to 8 December 2023 we are inviting companies from the North of England to join us on this exclusive trade mission to Japan.

The trade mission programme is designed for businesses who have exported previously and operate within the following four sectors:

•    Decarbonisation
•    Financial, professional, and business services
•    Life sciences
•    Technology, including cyber security

Why Japan?

Japan is currently the third largest economy in the world. Due to the Comprehensive and Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Japan, we have entered an exciting new chapter in trading relations between both countries. This agreement is projected to boost trade by £15.7 billion over the next 15 years.

As a stable country with a large, wealthy, and highly educated consumer market, premium high-quality goods and services are in demand. Japanese companies are also extremely loyal and open to building long-term business relationships.

About the mission

The programme has been created to maximise the opportunities that the Comprehensive and Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Japan can offer businesses. Working closely with our team in Japan, we have identified the sectors most likely to benefit. We will visit Tokyo and Osaka, where our in-market specialists will be on hand to support delegates.

This mission will coincide with a visit by Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham and UK Trade Envoy, Greg Clarke MP, providing a platform for further brand exposure. Manchester and Osaka are working together on projects based around net zero.

Why join?

  • Tailored pre-mission webinar support, focusing on the four key sectors
  • In-depth market insights from our market and sector specialists
  • Collaboration with a high-profile delegation, offering further opporunities for exposure
  • In-market events to meet and connect with potential buyers and key stakeholders in the Japanese market
  • Discover key themes for Expo 2025 and the opportunities this will offer

Cost and eligibility
To qualify as a delegate you must have some experience of exporting previously, and have the capacity and interest to explore opportunities within the Japanese market. We will assess your suitability for the mission before confirming your place.

The trade mission is free to join and includes all programme activities, however participating delegates will be required to pay for and book their own travel, accommodation, insurance etc.
