Virtual mission to: Uzbekistan | Kazakhstan | Russia

Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has the largest population in Central Asia, representing approximately 34 million people. 60% of this population is under the age of 25 and demand for education across all subsectors outstrips supply. For example, in 2019, 1,066,922 pupils applied for 110,000 places in higher education.

Internationalisation of the education sector has been a priority for the Uzbek government since 2016, when it launched its 'Education Development Strategy'. This has opened the doors more widely to international players and created new opportunities for UK companies - particularly in EdTech and English Language.

Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, the EdTech market is in the early stages of development, though interest is high. In 2018, the Kazakh government launched the 'Digital Kazakhstan' programme, with the objective of reforming its education system in line with the best global practices. Kazakh students are increasingly engaged with artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, virtual reality and more. The ability to code, develop, and test these technologies is in high demand and with the Covid-19 pandemic, there are increasing opportunities in this space for UK companies.

Russia

In Russia, the EdTech market is also expanding. In 2019 the sector was worth approximately £460 million. The market is currently growing by 20-25% annually and, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this growth is only expected to accelerate.

This mission will be of particular interest to companies seeking to learn more about each of these markets and looking to expand their international operations into Central Asia. This mission will include briefings, webinars and the opportunity to pitch your offer to a range of Uzbek, Kazakh and Russian businesses attending.
