About the event

The UK's Department for International Trade (DIT) alongside with the UK Trade Policy Observatory (UKTPO) will host a workshop on rules of origin under the UK-Andean Countries Trade Agreement.

The UK-Andean Countries Trade Agreement (Continuity Agreement) has been in force since January 2021 and implementation has been smooth. In the case of Colombia, the Trade Agreement is not into force yet but a Bridging Mechanism was agreed upon which replicates the same preferential treatment and conditions of the Trade Agreement. This Bridging Mechanism has applied to the UK-Colombia bilateral relationship from the same date.

In spite of the smooth implementation, rules of origin are widely known as a complex topic in the world of trade policy.

DIT has identified this as one of the elements of the agreement where it would be useful for UK companies and their buyers in the Andean countries to have a better understanding of. This is what this event aims to achieve.

We will be doing a deep dive into the world of rules or origin, with a particular focus on their characteristics within the UK-Andean Countries Trade Agreement, the practicalities of how to fulfil them in the context of the agreement, as well as the benefits of complying with them.

In addition to exploring how rules of origin work under the UK-Andean Trade Agreement, we will also be touching the new and additional rules from this agreement that companies need to know about:

  • The Direct Transit rule is more flexible when the merchandise goes through an EU Member state. However, UK products will still need to remain in customs custody when transiting through any EU country.

  • Extended cumulation of origin with the EU.

  • Working and processing cumulation with the EU.

After the workshop we will deliver a "Certificate of Participation". The sessions will be delivered in English. Simultaneous translation to Spanish will be available all throughout the sessions. Access links for each session will be send separately.

Please complete the online registration form by November 29 to confirm your participation.
