The Automotive Sector

The UK automotive industry is the 4th-largest in Europe, exports 80% of production and accounts for 13% of UK manufactured exports.

It is a vital part of the UK economy accounting for more than £82 billion turnover and £20.2 billion value added. With some 186,000 people employed directly in manufacturing and in excess of 856,000 across the wider automotive industry. More than 30 manufacturers build in excess of 70 models of vehicle in the UK supported by 2,500 component providers and some of the world’s most skilled engineers.

The UK has world class capabilities in the areas of low carbon technologies, connected and autonomous vehicles, lightweight materials, motorsport and niche low-volume vehicle makers (including buses).

Currently the UK has a huge opportunity for tier one supplier and upstream supplier business. DIT Automotive are committed to improving the competitiveness of the nation’s supply base and increasing the level of local commodity sourcing. We are working with the supply chain to help them understand opportunities in the UK automotive sector, and to understand available government support, increasing investment in the UK and promoting export opportunities.
