Connecting the UK and Hong Kong through sustainability
The UK and Hong Kong are both on a journey to achieve net-zero. By collaborating, we can address global challenges and forge a greener future together.
In the UK, we are cutting carbon emissions at the fastest rate in the world. We are the first major economy to legislate a net zero emissions law, the largest global producer of offshore wind energy, and pioneers of hydrogen-powered transportation. With the UK’s sustainability experience, Hong Kong’s dynamism and green ambition, we can fuel prosperity, whilst being a force for good.
In November 2021, the UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow and the Department for International Trade (DIT) is embedding sustainability across its work, supporting companies to achieve their sustainability focused ambitions and deliver against the green agenda.
Working together, countries can develop zero emission solutions faster, increase economies of scale, and bring down costs more quickly. The UK is committed to working with all governments, civil society and businesses to accelerate climate ambition on the road to COP26.
The Ten Point Plan
On 18 November 2020, the Prime Minister announced a Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, mobilising £12 billion of government investment, spurring up to three times as much private investment by 2030.
The plan focuses on increasing ambition in the following areas:
- advancing offshore wind
- driving the growth of low carbon hydrogen
- delivering new and advanced nuclear power
- accelerating the shift to zero emission vehicles
- green public transport, cycling and walking
- ‘jet zero’ and green ships
- greener buildings
- investing in carbon capture, usage and storage
- protecting our natural environment
- green finance and innovation
