Simon F Barnes

Funding and Partnerships Manager - University of Kent
Simon is currently working at the University of Kent in Canterbury, as Funding and Partnerships Development Manager. His role is to create and build links between academics and industry to solve challenges through a combination of new technology, business systems and leadership. Simon began his career in 1982 at the Port of Dover and since then has worked in supply chains and industry for Whitbread and SCA, as well as in the marine, automotive and grocery sectors. Supply chains and business systems have been a common thread of Simon’s work. His role is often to facilitate collaborations between industry partners, UK catapult organisations and academia to bring innovation and new skills to the UK, adding value to world-class research.

Arturo Fernández

Innovation Project Manager - Petronor
Arturo is an Industrial Engineer (graduated from ETSII-UPV) and has a Masters in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also has a Master in Refining, Petrochemical and Gas from the Repsol Higher Training Center and another Master in project management from the University of Barcelona. After working at IDOM as a process and mechanical engineer, in 2012 he joined PETRONOR where he worked as project manager in the Engineering Department. In 2016 he joined PETRONOR INNOVACIÓN S.L. as Head of Innovation in Energy Efficiency projects, supporting the management of new technology implementation projects. Arturo currently works as Head of Hydrogen projects.

Rachel Connor

Global Marine Marketing Director - GE Power
At GE, Rachel is responsible for leading global strategies in commercial and naval marine sectors, identifying and planning growth initiatives, innovation roadmaps and taking solutions to market. Rachel’s career experience includes leading sales, marketing and research functions in advanced engineering businesses, working in marine, defence, aerospace and energy sectors with a track record of new market entry and launching new technologies.

Paul Turner

Managing Director - CMB tech
Paul was the Engineering Director for Revolve Technologies for the last 21 years and is passionate about developing low carbon and emissions compliant vehicles to combat climate change. Paul has lead the development of hydrogen as a low carbon fuel for the automotive sector using both fuel cells and hydrogen combustion and it was the team working for Paul that developed the Hydrogen Diesel dual fuel combustion process. After successfully using this approach on a number of heavy duty road application Pauls team transferred the technology to the marine sector for CMB. Pauls team has further developed the concept of right sizing and MPSI.

Policy and project manager sustainable shipping - Port of Antwerp
Prior to his engagement as policy and project manager at Port of Antwerp in 2014, Pieter Vandermeeren was trained as doctoral researcher in bio-engineering at KU Leuven. At Port of Antwerp, he gained practical experience from various transition projects on an operational level. He took on leadership in teams within the organization and in the larger port community. Today, he combines his acquired operational and maritime knowledge with his scientific perspective to advise and guide Port of Antwerp in its sustainable transition.

Cees Boon

Senior Safety Advisor - Port of Rotterdam
Cees Boon started his career with the Port of Rotterdam Port Authority in 1983 as inspector for dangerous and noxious goods for the Division Harbour Master. At present he is alternative fuel safety expert of the Harbourmaster Policy Department and advisor of the (State)harbour Master of Rotterdam. He has been involved LNG developments in the Port of Rotterdam and is responsible for the safety framework and rules for the LNG bunkering in the port for seagoing and inland vessels. Nowadays Cees is involved in the Energy Transition program of the port of Rotterdam with the task to establish, in addition to LNG, an international accepted harmonized safety framework and guidelines for (STS) bunkering of all the new energy carriers like Methanol, (Liquid)Hydrogen, Ammonia and electrical power for propulsion.

Knowledge Transfer Manager: Maritime - KTN
At KTN Matt oversees the maritime sector and excels at engaging with new businesses and forming collaborative partnerships. Matt is an established figure within the sector and works alongside regional and national stakeholders to champion maritime innovation. Matt also has a passion for all things sustainable and contributes towards KTN activities on NetZero (within the Transport sector) and cross-sector work on the circular economy.

Mario Massarotti

Managing Director - Grimaldi Logistica Espaňa
Mr. Mario Massarotti was born in Naples, Italy in 1973 and graduated cum Laude at the Federico II University of Naples in 1998. In 1999 became Executive Manager of the Short Sea Shipping Lines in Grimaldi Group and one year after moved to Cork as Owner Representative of Grimaldi Group in Ireland. From 2001 to 2005 Mr. Massarotti has been Board Member of Euromed Ireland Logistics as well as Logistics Manager for Grimaldi Group in Naples and since 2004 is Board Member of Scandinavian Autologistic (Esbjerg Denmark). In 2007 moved to Barcelona, Spain as CEO of Grimadi Logistica España: since 2011 Mr. Massarotti is the Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona and since 2012 is also the CEO of the Grimaldi Terminal Barcelona.

She is an Chemical Engineer (NTUA) with specialization on the Science & Technology of Materials (MSc, NTUA). She is also certified as Safety Advisor on Dangerous Cargos Transportation. She holds an almost 20 years experience on port environmental management and since 2004 is activated on Port Environmental Review System Certification (PERS) and Ecoports Network membership. She is member of the Sustainable Development Committee of ESPO and has participated in several EU Co-financed projects as group leader of the PPA coordination and in other environmental Projects on port environmental management,

Katharine Palmer

UN High Level Climate Champions - UN Climate Champions
Katharine Palmer is the current shipping lead at the Climate Champions seconded from her role as global head of sustainability for Lloyd’s Register Maritime. With nearly 20 years’ experience in the shipping industry she is an established thought leader and expert on environment and sustainability issues within the maritime value chain. Katharine works with many industry forums and collaborative initiatives including the UN Global Compact, Getting to Zero Coalition and the Sustainable Shipping Initiative and is currently the co-chair of the IMarEST Technical Leadership Board and an elected trustee on the Board of the Sustainable Shipping initiative.
